Following my article last week ‘In memory of Paul’, we received emails from readers who were also saddened by his death and many who thanked the Chapel and Norman Andrews House for being there for them in a difficult time in their own life.
Paul championed for the isolated and lonely, and in true character, in his death he also brought us together more deeply.
Like many of the people we get to meet and know through Norman Andrews House, Paul had a family who cared deeply for him and tried to help him through his years of struggle. I met Paul’s family on Friday as they came to make funeral arrangements.
What a gracious and loving group of people! It was easy to see that they cared deeply for him and were very sad that he was gone.
I took Paul’s family to meet his friends and our dedicated staff at Norman Andrews. It was moving for me to see the kindness and gentleness with which each of his mates approached Paul’s family, gave their condolences and spoke with love in their eyes of how they felt about Paul - it was true ‘Love in Action’. One man left a beautiful tribute to Paul at the pavilion the night he died, not knowing that Paul’s family would go there that night and be comforted by the kindness shown.
Paul’s funeral service will be on Thursday 20th February at Chapel by the Sea, 95 Roscoe Street Bondi Beach. The service will start at 10.30am followed by a wake in our cafe. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Paul’s life with us.
