7pm dinner, 8pm discussion & 8:20pm movie
Chapel by the Sea, 95 Roscoe St Bondi
Come to our exciting upcoming event and leave with a deeper understanding of the issues facing Indigenous Australians. How have things changed in the last 20 years?
This April we're screening Utopia.
Utopia tells the story of the Aboriginal communities in the northern Australian region. They are the oldest human presence on earth and also one of the poorest areas in this country. The documentary reveals stories of oppression and struggle by the Aboriginal community. Journalist and director John Pilger has looked back in time to see how Australians have treated this community, how they were depicted in the media and how Utopia has developed over the years.
Cost: $15 (+ donations welcome)
Time: Dinner is served at 7pm & the movie starts at 8:20pm
A discussion will be held before the movie led by George Newhouse, an Australian human rights lawyer, former local councillor, political activist and ex-Mayor of Waverley (2006-2007). Newhouse is also Special Council at Shine Lawyers where he heads up their Social Justice Practice.
Here is your chance to let someone with understanding and influence know your views on Indigenous issues and maybe just walk away with a bit more awareness.
Music will be performed during the dinner by Sean Patrick Ryan, a master didjeridoo player.
