Dear Friends of the Chapel,
A trip to our North Bondi Op Shop this week made me quickly realise that it was possible I could easily lose many hours of my life pouring through the treasures that lay within. I’m a bit of an impulse shopper, but I’m also someone who has done some serious de-cluttering over recent years. On Monday afternoon, these two instincts were having a serious face-off! We live in a society that screams at us to define ourselves by how new, recent, updated, numerous and pricey the possessions in our lives are, and how much money we are able (or ‘need’) to earn, to afford all the luxuries we desire. Op Shops sing from a different song-sheet. In our well run and laid out Op Shop, chic meets retro meets funky, and serenades us with the song of a community working together to upcycle, recycle and re-use. With proceeds going to our work at Norman Andrews House, there is also a strong sense of contributing to other community projects in the process. Run primarily by a team of dedicated volunteers who give their heart and soul to seeing the Op Shop do well, this is a space that feels welcome and cosy - and like somebody cares. So if you are looking for a bargain, drop in during opening hours (elsewhere in this Newsletter) and have a hunt around for yourself. If you have quality goods you would like to donate, or are looking for a place to make a meaningful contribution, contact us through [email protected], or drop your contact details in at the Op Shop, and Victoria will get back to you.
At The Chapel, we are an organisation who like to express our gratitude. At the moment we have a lot to be thankful for. In recent times we have received significant donations from the Paddington RSL Club through their ClubGrants program, and a generous private donor. Their contributions will go towards the scheduled kitchen upgrade - without them this important work could not be done.
We would also like to name the businesses and organisations who contribute regularly in practical and helpful ways to the running of Norman Andrews House. They are IGA Bondi Beach, Lox Stock and Barrell, Sonoma Bakery, Chef’s Warehouse, Oz Harvest and So Gorgeous. We also wish to acknowledge the important partnership we have with Waverly Council.
We wish to thank all those who contribute, for partnering with us in this important work of offering support and services to people doing it tougher than most of us could ever imagine.
Until next week,
Blessings,
Rev Graham Anson
