Dear Friends of the Chapel,
This week I sat with someone sharing together in the meaning of life. For the time I have been here this fellow has been preparing his transport, a motorised push bike and attached trailer, for a planned trip to Tasmania. He is just about ready to go. The difference for this fellow and the sort of trip that most of us would take, is that he's not planning a holiday but an opportunity to face some of his demons. He lost a leg in a freak accident a few years back and at the same time lost his nerve as a rock-climber and abseiler. His determination to head to Tassie and resume his once-favourite activity is inspirational. He sleeps rough and over time has scraped and saved enough money to turn his dream into a reality. This was one of those privileged conversations you occasionally get to share in where someone is acting on a desire to change. Sometime in the next couple of weeks we'll be sending him off with a blessing and our well wishes.
As you will well know, the work done through Norman Andrews House makes an invaluable contribution to the lives of so many people doing it tough. At the moment, the provision of both breakfast and lunch on a daily basis for at least fifty people, has become an almost impossible task. The kitchen's range-hood has served well, but is ageing and the stove has only one element working. You can imagine the difficulties that this presents. While a donation has been thankfully received that covers the cost for a new unit, there are still a whole bunch of other costs associated with the change over that means we are $6,000 short of making it happen. If you were in a position to make a donation specifically towards this cause, you would be making a much needed and meaningful contribution to our work with the poor of Bondi and Eastern Sydney. No donation is too small and every bit of help on this matter will be much appreciated. If you require a receipt for tax purposes then cheques should be made out to "Bondi Beach Community Centre Norman Andrews House". For a direct deposit or credit card donation, please contact Jackie on (02) 9130 3445 for more details.
Until next week,
Peace and blessings,
Rev. Graham Anson.
