Elder Brian Butler of the Aranda and Luritja tribes has experienced forced removal from his family. He and his mother were taken from Alice Springs to a detention centre in Darwin. Thankfully he was reunited with his family and tribe and was handed the responsibility of locating Stolen Children and reuniting them with their families.
He was raised in a culture of Lateral Violence, oppression of indigenous people by colonisers, which he says continues to this day. So he founded Lateral Love, fostering unity based on the principals of Caring, Sharing, Nurturing Love and Respect.
Brian and his niece Nicola Butler will conduct a seminar and workshop this month to teach Lateral Love. His 'Universal Law of Oneness' connects humans with Mother Nature, each other and spirituality. The seminar will feature teachings on the Aboriginal Dream Time and indigenous culture. Brian will also weave into the main topic information about Aboriginal behavioral expectations and norms, so we can start laying the foundation for a common language of respect.
