On a hot sunny day over the January holiday period my daughter and three grandchildren went down to Bondi Beach for the afternoon. We bobbed around in the North Bondi kids “piddly” pool, laughing and having fun. We had brought the bodyboard with us so my 5-year-old granddaughter Ava and I ventured onto the beach. We built a sandcastle then went into the surf for her first lesson. We waited for the perfect wave and I then showed her how to weight the board so the front is slightly up and pushed her on her way shouting for her to hold on and keep your head up. Well what an exhilarating ride her first wave on a bodyboard was! She rode the wave right up onto the sand with a big grin on her face and a giggle exclaiming “I want to do it again Grandma”. Not all waves were a triumph but at every dunk Ava leaped up giggling and laughing ready for the next adrenaline rush. Another excellent day on Bondi Beach.
I’ve lived in Bondi for exactly 40 years now and in that time have seen quite a few tide changes. I think I am one of the luckiest people in the world to be living here. That summer day is just one of the many that have been very special moments of spending quality time with my family growing up here having had a lot of fun.

I love Bondi’s growing native flora and bird life. During the summer, the sun is already up at 6:30am, when I walk from Bondi to Bronte there are many people exercising along the beach, Bondi is alive and well. I have caught some amazing sunrises on my camera on my morning walks, the beautiful explosion of red and orange that stretches across the sky. I love the way the sun inches its way above the water line and hangs there for a few seconds before it journeys over to the Blue Mountains in the West.

A variety of native birds - white cockatoos, currawongs and kookaburras - congregate on the grass and surrounding parks and gardens now that there have
been more native trees planted over the last few years. They don’t seem bothered sharing their beach with the rest of the Bondi community. And in the evening there's a wonderful full moon hanging over Ben Buckler Point. From there you can see blue luminous lights from the weights on fishing lines that bob in the water and create a magical ocean water scene.
Yes, I love Bondi.
