7pm, Sunday 16 March 2014 Chapel by the Sea, 95 Roscoe St Bondi Professor Sherwood has co-authored over 60 papers published in peer reviewed journals. His 2005 Science paper on atmospheric warming was covered extensively by the international media and the associated study was named as one of the top 100 scientific discoveries of 2005 by Discover magazine. He was also contributing author to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) Fourth Assessment Report and lead author of the US Climate Change Science Program report Temperature Trends in the Lower Atmosphere: Steps for Understanding and Reconciling Differences His talk on Sunday will be on "Global responsibility - Past, Present and Future" and will take us on his journey through the latest IPCC findings, delivering the history behind such decision making and it's impact upon our earth today. |
7pm, Sunday 9 March 2014 Chapel by the Sea, 95 Roscoe St Bondi Doug Hewitt attended the World Council of Churches 10th Assembly in Busan, South Korea last year. The theme of the Assembly was “God of life, lead us to justice and peace”. The reports and outcomes of the gathering were published in The Ecumenical Review. Doug will discuss with us his report and give a visual presentation of his time at the World Assembly. Doug began his teaching career in Central West NSW. Then after many years based in Sydney, teaching at the Catholic Teachers College and the Australian Catholic University, Doug retired to work with the National Council of Churches and the NSW Ecumenical Council. Since moving to Newcastle, he has involved in the Hunter Presbytery and Hamilton Wesley church. He has a commitment to the causes of justice and peace, particularly with the Palestinian peoples. 10am Sunday 9 March: Katalina Tahaafe-Williams Katalina is Uniting Mission and Education’s Multicultural/Cross-Cultural Consultant in the Relationships and Resourcing Team. She was formerly the Director of Communitas: Contextual Mission and Theology Program at United Theological College and previously the United Reformed Church in the UK's Assembly Secretary for Racial Justice and Multicultural Ministry, where her brief included responsibility for the denomination's work on interfaith relations in that very ecumenical and vibrant multi-faith context. Watch her sermon at the Uniting Church of Canada. 10am Sunday 16 February: Walter Mason Walter is firmly committed to the idea of Interfaith spirituality, and is convinced of the possibility of meaningful exploration of plural spiritual paths. At present Walter’s spiritual journey could be defined as Buddhist-Christian, with input from the ideas of Christian mystic Emanuel Swedenborg and inspired by the example of the Hindu mystic Ramakrishna.
